CROMMELIN FOOTBALL LEAGUE – Miami (AP)

Far from the likes of last season's less-than-a-point margin of victory in Super Bowl III… this year’s game was more of a melt down of atomic proportions…  Randy Ellsworth’s Atomics fought back from a number 8 seed to light up the crisp, wintery, night sky… leaving Owen Martin’s Big Daddy O’s stripped and on the blocks…  There was absolutely nothing left of the pimped out number 2 seed… In fact, it is believed the entire team had to hitchhike back to Texas… what was left of them…

Another year is in the books…  History is made… and we have ushered in the Atomic age with the cunning skills of Randy Ellsworth at the controls.  Super Bowl IV is etched into timelessness, and the champion – crowned…  The Commander Orvis trophy has found a new home… at least for the year…  Now, as the snowflakes fall silently on the earth, we all can crawl into our holes to brave out the rest of this nuclear winter that is upon us.

Congratulations to Randy Ellsworth and his Atomics – Crommelin Football League, Super Bowl IV CHAMPIONS!

The season’s final standings will be marked in history as:

1.   Atomics (Randy Ellsworth)
2.   Big Daddy O’s (Owen Martin)
3.   Willy’s Warriors (John Wilson)
4.   GO DAWGS (Ronnie Shirley)
5.   Short Fat Bald Guys (Mike Tashiro)
6.   BA Bombers (AJ Persson)
7.   Guthrie Jaguars (Nate Holley)
8.   Darkhorse (Matt Opalka)
9.   The Skins (Jared Keys)
10.   Slackers (Micky Kilburn)
11.   Chicago Southsiders (Derrick Boyd) ***Rookie of the Year***
12.   Indianapolis RPMs (Sherman Pitzer)
13.   NAVYPD (Dean Taylor)
14.   sps49ers (Dave Wittrock)
15.   Panama City Chiefs (Mike Consolver)
16.   Steel Dynasty (Richard “Cooter” Corder)
17.   Barnstormers (Al Filiau)
18.   Blackshirts (Dennis Peterson)
19.   PSU_Steve (Steve Roberts)
20.   spudhead (Ken Backes)

See you all next season!!!

Crommelin Football League Chicago (AP)

It was an epic weekend…  One most won’t forget in quite a while.  Who would have thought the boys in the blue horseshoe would put the screw to teams all across the league – not to mention fantasy football wide.  Nevertheless, stats are accumulated and teams continue to wrangle for position…  It just so happens this is in the thick of a serious quest for the Commander Orvis Trophy.

Ronnie Shirley’s GO DAWGS fell just short of a trip to Super Bowl-land last season.  It was more than a quest for a trophy – more so, it was one of redemption!  Piloted by Peyton Manning the signs were good for the DAWGS to put up a fight against Randy Ellsworth’s Atomics.  Ronnie wasn’t feeling the same assuredness the rest of the crowd counted on…  In fact, Mr. Shirley was more than edgy with doubt.  And the stinking burn of the rotten egg thrown out in Manning’s half-game performance, countered by the late night rocket show by Brett Favre, is all the evidence we need this Tuesday morning…  Maybe it was just a short leash… too short… for the DAWGS to make it all the way this year…  The Atomics grab the first golden ticket, 109.4 – 94, and a shot at Super Bowl history.

For the first time in Crommelin Football League history, the crowned champion will not rise from the rate of Fire Controlmen.  The one glimmer of hope was dashed out in the cold, crisp Chicago night sky…  Pulling off an upset, one would think the probability of the Willy’s Warriors WR Johnny Knox accumulating at the very least the projected 3.1 points was a certainty…  Not just one opportunity sailed over his head and JUST out of reach…  And then there was the ankle injury that sealed the fate of the Warriors, allowing Owen Martin’s Big Daddy O’s to hang on by the pimpin’ long feather tucked in their helmets…  It was more than a nail-biter.  This one had every spectator gasping for air all the way through overtime, wide-eyed and looking for Knox to return…  That just didn’t happen, and the O’s limped away with a 93.2 – 90.2 win, and the last coveted golden ticket to Super Bowl IV.

So, that’s it!  The game is set!  The Super Bowl IV title will be decided in Miami as Randy Ellsworth’s Atomics bring the power in an attempt to subdue the bling and sting of Owen Martin’s Big Daddy O’s.  Tune in next week for the 2009 CFL dénouement and the crowning of our newest champion!

Crommelin Football League – Indianapolis (AP)

The playoff season landed like a ton of bricks, presenting a holiday gift no one was expecting!  Only one top seed managed to scratch out a win… and even that wasn’t very pretty.  And then there were four.

Top seeded AJ Persson flew his BA Bombers into the arena, taking on the red hot Atomics.  Putting together a string of six wins towards the end of regular season play was all the Atomics needed to secure a “chance” at glory.  Matched up against the number one seed did not intimidate – but, rather fueled their nuclear rage!  As the dust settled in the Atomic dust bin, it was in fact the Atomics who emerged victorious!  Randy Ellsworth’s power pack lives to fight another day after beating the Bombers, 104.5 – 95.7.

It was a vicious fight in the wild of Guthrie, Texas.  Ronnie Shirley’s DAWGS were blood thirsty after missing out on a Super Bowl bid last season.  Gnarly teeth were exposed on both sides of the ball as Nate Holley’s Jaguars kicked up the dust with the DAWGS.  Shirley’s underDAWGS limped away, bloodied, but with a win clinched in their fangs, ending the Jag’s season 122.4 – 122.1 in a true nail-biter of a game!

Owen Martin is walking the pimp-strut following his win over Mike Tashiro’s Short Fat Bald Guys.  The Big Daddy O’s were the only top seeded team to hold on for a win in this first week of playoff action.  Maybe it was the glimmer off the 40 inch rims of the tricked out team bus, with fuzzy dice on the look-around that distracted the Short Fat Bald Guys…  Nevertheless, the O’s win a shot at another week of play following a score of 118.7 – 110.1.

Three Super Bowls are in the history books… all three championed by former Fire Controlmen.  The fourth game of Week 1 in the playoffs pitted two surly veterans against each other – both managed by former FC’s…  Matt “Opie” Opalka took his Darkhorse to the barn in 2007 as champions.  They were back here for another run as the number three seed, matched up against John “Willy” Wilson’s Warriors – a number six seed.  With a hope and a prayer, and the fact that last year’s champion (the RPMs) was also a 6 seed, the Warriors stood strong against the onslaught of the Darkhorse.  In the end the Darkhorse would pull up lame as the Warriors presented their manager John Wilson with a plane ticket to Texas, and a shot at the Big Daddy O’s.  Warriors over the Darkhorse 108.6 – 66.1…

Week two of playoff actions promises to provide much more excitement with the following line-up:

(Cool Atomics
Vs.
(5) GO DAWGS

AND

(6) Willy’s Warriors
Vs.
(2) Big Daddy O’s

With the winners of these two games heading to Super Bowl IV!

Also, consolation games include:

(1)   BA Bombers
Vs.
(4) Guthrie Jaguars

And

(3)   Darkhorse
Vs.
(7) Short Fat Bald Guys

Tune in next week as we inch closer to a new CFL Champion!!!

Crommelin Football League – Indianapolis (AP)

The 2009 regular season has wrapped up, and is in the books…  Now, the only thing that stands between the eight remaining teams and the Commander Orvis Trophy are the three brutal weeks of knuckle-grinding, nose-breaking, cold weather football that is the “playoffs.”

Only one game in week 14 had any real possible implications for the playoffs.  The Slackers were fighting for their lives, while the Warriors were merely trying to stay afloat.  Micky Kilburn’s Slackers would have to do a little more than beat John Wilson’s Warriors – they would have to hand them a beating of serious, number 9, ass-whippin’ proportions!  Was it enough?!?!?  Not really… The Slackers slid helplessly under the waves sloshed up by the Warriors’ offensive push, ending their season after the 128.4 – 107.4 loss…

The positively charged Atomics were cooled off a bit by the visiting Guthrie Jags, 124.2 – 121.4, as Nate Holley’s boyz climbed a little higher in the seedings…  Randy Ellsworth’s radio active power play fizzled, and his Atomics actually fell a few rungs on the ladder.

Owen Martin and his Big Daddy O’s showed no love for his fellow zero, knocking off Dennis Peterson’s Blackshirts, 129.5 – 100.8, while locking in a spot at the top and the number 2 seed overall.

AJ Persson set out on a mission this season…  The objective?  To reclaim the crown which has eluded him since he first wore it in season one…  The BA Bombers flight plan sortied them on their final regular season mission over the Chicago Southsiders.  The rookie-of-the-year manager, Derrick Boyd, fell short of the playoffs, as well as to the Bombers 118.3 – 68.2.

So now… eight teams enter in, each grasping their golden ticket…Who will survive?  Who wants it more???  Entering the playoffs, the CFL standings appear as this:

11-3   BA Bombers
11-3   Big Daddy O’s
9-5   Darkhorse
9-5   Guthrie Jaguars
9-5   GO DAWGS
9-5   Willy’s Warriors
8-6   Short Fat Bald Guys
8-6   Atomics
7-7   The Skins
7-7   Slackers
7-7   Chicago Southsiders
6-8   Indianapolis RPMs
6-8   NAVYPD
6-8   sps49ers
6-8   Panama City Chiefs
5-9   Steel Dynasty
5-9   Barnstormers
4-10   Blackshirts
4-10   PSU_Steve
3-11   SpudHead

Anyone can see… this has been the most evenly matched season in the history of the Crommelin Football League.  Tune in next week for hot off the presses results of CFL playoff action!

Crommelin Football League – Mountain View (AP)
It is do-or-die time in the Crommelin Football League!  The season is down to a final week of play, and six of the eight playoff spots still remain unaccounted for.  Eight teams remain in the fight for those final six slots!  Competition has been nothing but fierce in a season that has surprisingly proven to be very evenly matched.
Some teams have struggled just to stay alive all season.  Most unexpected was the rapid decline of dominance displayed last year by defending CFL Champion, the Indianapolis RPMs.  Just as unexpected was the immediate ascent of the rookie squad,  the Chicago Southsiders, who still cling to hopes of stealing one of the six remaining shots at glory!
The season’s biggest statement being made this late in the season is one from Randy Ellsworth and his Atomics.  Currently his squad is enjoying a string of 6 straight wins!  While on the other side of the coin, Spud Head is a rookie group on a six game skid.
After 13 weeks the tight standings look like this:
10 – 3      BA Bombers
10 – 3      Big Daddy O’s
8 – 5      Darkhorse
8 – 5      Guthrie Jaguars
8 – 5      Short Fat Bald Guys
8 – 5      Atomics
8 – 5      GO DAWGS
8 – 5      Willy’s Warriors
7 – 6      Slackers
7 – 6      Chicago Southsiders
6 – 7      The Skins
6 – 7      NAVYPD
6 – 7      sps49ers
5 – 8      Steel Dynasty
5 – 8      Indianapolis RPMs
5 – 8      Barnstormers
5 – 8      Panama City Chiefs
4 – 9      Blackshirts
3 – 10      SpudHead
3 – 10      PSU_Steve
Tune in next week to see WHO’S WHO in the CFL playoff picture!
